"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

I'm headed out to buy one (BTW Gopro has stolen the "sell you an expensive product and then triple the price by charging an arm and a leg for every one of a million accessories" crown from Apple/Porsche), and I'm a little nervous. My plan is to test it out by doing a short drive/demonstration video for you guys, with the camera mounted here, as marked by the red circle:
and facing forward. And I am a little worried that the camera may a) stick out to far, hit something, and break off, or b) loose suction, and fall off. I've watched videos with them attached to drift cars, race cars, stunt planes, and speed boats, but I'm still worried. For those of you who have used the suction cup mount before, please reassure me that I have nothing to worry about. After this post, expect a video later (unless I chicken out), and then you can stop listening to me talk about my cameras for a while.

If you aren't so sure about it staying, just find something to tie around it, and slam that in the trunk, with a really tight tension.

You can hang yourself on the suction mount....

That's one idea.

I'm going to take that to mean I have nothing to worry about in the "falling off" department.

It should work, but try spraying some water onto the surface before you actually mount the camera.

Don't put it right on the crease.
As long as the paint's smooth and clean it'll stay.
The only time my suction mount ever let go was because it was on a patch of crappy DIY respray.

Yeah, it won't be on the crease.

Yes, I use a similar mount for mounting a 1.5kg DSLR to objects.

Nice gullideckelwheels btw... Can't see if they are polished, if not.. POLISH till you drop and you'll have an amazing set of wheels!

suction cup mounts only really keep on glass and metal, and even on those only if its reasonably flat. Plastic don't keep up the vacuum, so it'll fall, because it'll move too much, and let air in.
If you want a wheel shot, use the door. Don't be affraid to hang it upside down, there is a setting in the menu to turn the picture 180° - or right it afterwards, with the video etiding software.
Hope this helps :-)

I'm guessing the bumper is plastic. How about on the rear fender, just below the fuel door?

Could work, it depends on how curved it is. The problem here is that suction cups work best on perfectly flat surfaces, especially glass. Metal works too, but only if it isn't too curved.
However, you can test this: put it on, and then yank on it sideways, as if you would want to lift the edge of the cup off the surface. If you cannot pull it off, it'll most likely stay on.

That's how I figured I should test it. Thanks.

Can't find the video, but there is one of an RX8(I think) having a crash and the gopro staying on the bumper that hit.
